| I have always enjoyed sewing. My trusty janome was my first big purchase when I moved out of home and no longer had access to Mum's old Bernina. I tried all sorts of things, sewing my own clothes, crochet, cross stitch, the list goes on. They all involved far too much counting and pattern following and not enough creativity and imagination. Eventually my sister in law, a brilliant fingersmith with her own quilting store, intoduced me to embroidery and I fell in love. I stitched something on just about everything while I was pregnant with my daughter. As framing was more than I could afford at the time I would make my embroideries into cushions and thus my love of fabric was born. Good grief I love fabric. I get so excited choosing new colours and styles and then figuring out how best to arrange them. I started quilting very slowly and got braver with every attempt. I started to feel confident enough in my work to give quilts as gifts to those people we all have in our lives who are impossible to shop for. Then something amazing happened, they liked the quilts so much that they started showing them to their friends who would ask where they got them... and the rest is history...Marina Home was born! |
